Issue
If you do not already have the latest version of our Automated Proctoring extension you will be prompted to download it when your Automated Proctoring session is started. If this process does not complete successfully you may need to manually install the extension.
Solution
Steps to follow
- If you already have a version of the SmarterProctoring Chrome Extension installed, remove it. If you are unsure on how to remove an extension, you can follow our directions on this process.
- Once removed, follow the link below to download the latest version of the SmarterProctoring. Clicking the link will automatically start downloading this file to your default downloads folder.
Download Latest Extension Version - After downloading the extension, navigate to the folder where files are downloaded to and unzip the .zip file and you should see a a folder that looks something like this.
How to Unzip on Mac
Double click the zipped file.
The file will automatically be decompressed by Archive Utility into the same folder the compressed file is in.How to Unzip on Windows
Right-click the compressed (zipped) folder.
Select Extract All from the context menu.
By default, the compressed files will extract in the same location as the zipped folder, but you can click the Browse button to select an alternative location.
Check the Show extracted files when complete option.
At this point, go back to Google Chrome and navigate to chrome://extensions/
- On the top-right of the screen there will be a toggle switch that says 'Developer Mode'. Turn this on (highlighted in green below):
- Then select the 'Load Unpacked' option at the top left of the chrome://extensions/ window and select the folder that you had unzipped earlier, detailed instructions below.
- Select 'Load Unpacked':
- Navigate to the folder that you unzipped earlier, select it and then click 'Select':
- Select 'Load Unpacked':
- Congratulations the Automated Proctoring extension is now installed.
- Return back to the SmarterProctoring tab containing the onboarding procedure for your exam to continue.
